House Quilt Block Study No. 1 | Quilt Sampler

As part of my Quilt Block Sampler study, I found myself interested in house blocks. There is something very charming about them in all of their various forms. The fabrics that you choose can really shape the look of them, some are wildly colorful and some only have 2 colors. It just seems like such an exciting way to use up odds and end of scraps and end up with something SO cool.
I am excited to work my way through some different house block designs!

House Block Number One:
The first block that I tried was from The Spruce Crafts. I found it to be appealing because it had simple components and construction and used quite a few different fabric colors. Since I am working my way through my scrap pile for these blocks, I have mostly smaller pieces to work with - so this block was perfect.

Pattern Review:
The tutorial that I followed made 2, 12 inch blocks at a time. I am leaning towards including one in my sampler quilt so I have an extra to make into something else. OR - I had the thought to maybe have a house sample quilt!? Could be fun. I'll save the second one for dreaming of that!
I found the tutorial simple to follow and I liked that it was constructed of rectangles and half triangle squares. It made the process approachable and enjoyable for my first house block. I would highly recommend following this tutorial if you're interested in making a house block - especially for a 12" sampler quilt!

I know that my journey in working scraps into gorgeous quilts is only at the beginning and that it will likely be a lifelong pursuit/practice. For me, piecing and quilting is something that I work through very slowly, often quilts takes years for me to fully finish - especially when I hand quilt them. For years, this bugged me. But once I realized that it was just my process and I stopped comparing myself to other makers, I feel at peace with it.
I am excited to share more as I go along! Have you made a house block before? If so, share the pattern/tutorial that you used so that I can try it as well!
